2908-A Oak Ridge Road ~ Oak Ridge, NC 27310
It's our 21st Year and we are in the planning a GREYT event. Mark you calendars.
Additional overflow parking: The church directly across from the driveway entrance on Oak Ridge Road has given us permission to park. Please park in rows so that it's easy entry & exit. A little further to walk to the kennel but we have limited space.
Invitation to all Past, Present and Perspective owners of Greyhounds to join us in our May Open House . This event is to raise funds to support our ongoing adoption program that includes the care of the greyhounds while awaiting adoption, veterinary expenses, shelter operational expenses and food. We highlight the day with live entertainment, vendors, demonstrations, Hound Cafe, Pet Therapy Bake Sale, Blessing of the Animals, raffle tickets and last but not least, shopping and more shopping. I encourage you to attend and be apart of this exciting fund-raising day.
While the focus of the event will be on greyhounds, we encourage old and new visitors to the "greyhound world" and all leashed pets are welcome. Please remember that Greyhound Friends of North Carolina is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your contributions are tax deductible.
A few pictures from 2014 Cinco de Mayo Open House - Thanks to YOU, beautiful weather and Dennis and Claire, we consider the event a HUGE success.
SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
Jason Hancock - Speaker followed by Questions and Answers (2015)
Presentation between 1-2PM “A Racing Greyhound’s Life”
“A Racing Greyhound’s Life" - from breeding to retirement”. Many questions I am asked about greyhounds pertain to their life prior to retirement. This seminar is designed to curtain many of the questions and or myths about how greyhounds are raised and raced. I will provide factual information and answer any questions that may arise. The seminar starts with the breeding selection and process, then onto whelping, nursing, and weaning. Then I will explain what happens during their first year of life, then explain how finishing works and how a dog is selected for each track. From that point it is onto track like, what it is like to live in a racing kennel and how the racing works. Last but certainly not least is how the dog transitions from racing to retirement. All this is done using a powerpoint presentation with my lecture and MANY MANY cute puppy and adult greyhound pictures. My goal is to help everyone understand what their dog has experienced before they met them.
Jason has been involved in all aspects of greyhounds. He was introduced to the breed in 1999 after meeting one at a meet and greet. Shortly after that in 2002 he adopted his first greyhound, Emma. His love of the breed grew from there. Jason has been involved in adoption, working in an adoption kennel, working at a racing kennel, helping at and visiting several farms and attending many racetracks along the east coast. Jason has done almost everything there is to do with a racing greyhound, assist with whiry gig, sprinting, hand slipping, benching, tattooing puppies, bringing to weigh in, feeding, pick up post race, cool down, and owing racing greyhounds. He has had numerous long conversations with some of the older men and woman in the greyhound industry and has learned a tremendous amount about the breed and racing. Jason is a NGA member and currently owns 2 racers and is in the market for a brood lease to raise his own litter. He has two children, Sierra who is 14 and Isabella who is 4. His greyhounds include a brood named Flying Cleburne, her nephew Flying Lone Wolf who is a 2013 All American greyhound, Cleburne’s son, Flyin Commandant who is her top offspring, littermates Chucky and Rita and Linda. He has given seminars in the past about famous sires at GFNC’s Mountain Hounds and Greyhound Crossroads Beach Bound Hounds.
