Changing the
world ......
One greyhound at a time!
Our mission is to rescue retired, racing
Greyhounds, provide for their health and welfare,
educate the public about the
availability and desirability of greyhounds as pets and
place them through adoption
into
loving home.
The kennel will be closed to visitors on News Year's Day other than
volunteers performing the schelduled three turn-outs. If you are
available to take a shift, you can
contact the kennel or Blanche Fedor.
Happy New
Year ~ 2009
All of
us from Greyhound Friends wants to thank each and everyone for ALL
you have done for the kennel and greyhounds in our care throughout the
year.
The end result benefits the greyhounds from the first day
of arrival until they leave us.
A newly designed "Military
Style"
identification tags that are issued upon adoption of a greyhound and
placed on the go-home collar will now have a 3 digit number issued
to the adoption family. We started with 001 and ordered 300
tags. The number will be written on the adoption contract and then
put into the database. This is being done in an effort to identify a
lost greyhound faster. It's sometimes hard to read the
tattoo's in the ears. This does not replace the owner's
responsibility to also purchase their own identification tag with
their name, address and phone number on it.
This will only apply to newly adopted
greyhounds unless you would like to purchase a
new tag for
your greyhound at $1.00 each tag.

It takes each of us to promote greyhound adpotion.
Check the
Calendar of Events section of our
website often.
We need lots of volunteers to attend these events. They always
include your greyhound
that creates a great way to promote our Adoption Program.
Because we are a non-profit organization, we rely
on donations to feed and house the greyhounds and to cover the costs of any
medical expenses beyond the norm. Our adoption fees only help to cover
the basic medical requirement for adoptive placement: spay/neuter,
dental cleaning, shots, worming, etc.

Click on Link for the
application
In order to complete the requirements for Greyhound Adoption License Plate,
we
have
to sell 300. Click on the Link to Print and Complete the License
Plate Application.
You can now have a Greyhound Adoption License Plate from the State of
North Carolina.
Help get the word out about greyhounds. The license plate is
sponsored by GFNC. All it will cost you is an extra $20/50
over what
your yearly license plate costs-the same as any specialized or
personalized plate.
Before the order can be placed with NCDMV, 300 applications (along with
payment of the fee) must be collected.
This is a requirement of
the NCDMV.
All monies collected will be held in a separate bank account and IF 300
applications have NOT been sold, the money
will be refunded.
Applications and Payment should be mailed to:
Greyhound Friends of N.C. ~2908 Oak Ridge Road ~ Oak Ridge, NC 27310
There is no time limit for collection these applications, but the sooner
we get 300, the sooner we can get
the plates out. It doesn't help
to wait to see if we get 300 before you apply - if everyone does that,
we never will.
Please help us made that total- you don't have to
keep them in the future if you don't want to

GFNC now has our
very own Message Board where we can all communicate with members from
all over the state!
Leah Cales has provided instructions on how to
register, post a message, and use the most popular features!
There are a lot of benefits of having a Message Board like this -
the
biggest one is that we can now post PICTURES right in our messages!
We can all chat with each other -
so we are no longer only chatting with the people in our own
Satellite!
So join today, let's get started talking with each other!
Any questions or problems registering contact Leah Cales:

If you live
in the Guilford County-Triad Area and are interested in volunteer work
with Greyhounds, consider becoming one of our kennel volunteers.
It is a wonderful opportunity to help, and a chance to interact with
greyhounds.
Kennel volunteers are trained and work under supervision until we feel a volunteer is
trained.
Volunteers may work as much as one
shift a week or as little as one shift a month,
depending on how much time they have to give.
We also have
immediate openings for weekday evening (5:30-6:30pm) turnout volunteers. Don't be shy
about volunteering; there is always room for another volunteer
If you are interested in
volunteering at Greyhound Friends please contact Blanche Fedor, Volunteer
Coordinator a 336.707.8530 or 336.852.9739 or email:
